Tour my old stomping grounds, via high speed police chase
posted by kronosposeidon 6 months 1 week ago • 730 views
My mom sent me this video today. It shows the view from a dashboard camera of an Omaha, NE police car during a high speed chase in Nov. 2006. BFD, right? Well, I was born and raised in Omaha, and some of the streets seen in the chase are ones I went down many, many times. The chase starts on 42nd and "L" streets, and moves south down 42nd St. I drove that street every freaking day to go to the high school that I loathed so dearly.

Won't you take a high-speed stroll down memory lane with me?

That's gotta be trippy for ya, Kronos, to see this vid. I'll bet that high speed police pursuits aren't all that common where you lived in NE, unlike where I am here in Southern California, sad to say, where the chases are an almost normal and daily occurence, especially in Los Angeles.

^Actually they happen more than you might think, Issy. According to Wiki the Omaha metro area has a population of 822,000. Not as big as LA by no means, but it's still a big city with all the big city problems. However it was a little surprising to see a police chase that was this wild taking place right where I grew up.

And sirex, if you rat me out, so help me....

Exciting. Now if this guy had played more video games, he'd realize that blindly firing out his car window is not only a waste of bullets, but also a great way to increase the intensity and number of police.

If you plan to evade the police, you really need to think about strategy. Perhaps you could pull over and when the officer gets out of his car, you slam on the gas, buying you precious seconds to get away.

Also, study the geography of the area in advance. Note the location of tunnels or confusing but passable off road routes. The trip through the park was a good idea, but not knowing where the lake was ultimately ended the chase.

If you must use a gun, conceal it until you've run out of options.

Geez, they shoot the poor guy 5 times and sentence him to 30 years in prison?

I call police brutality!

Somewhere in LA a cop is laughing and uttering the words "daily routine." Sweet chase, though.
